How to safely transport propane in your car
If you need to transport a propane tank in your car for camping, barbecuing or at the cottage, it’s important to take extreme precautions to avoid accidents. Here are some tips to help you transport propane safely.
Compliant container
Always transport propane gas in a tank designed for this purpose. Depending on the model, the tank may have a sealing valve or dust cap. It’s also important to note that tanks must be replaced or recertified after 10 years of use.
Transport tips
After checking twice that the propane cylinder valve is properly closed, follow these tips:
- Place the tank in an upright position.
- Secure the tank to prevent it from falling over or slipping during transport.
- Make sure all other nearby objects are well secured to prevent them from bumping into the tank.
- Allow air to circulate by opening a window.
- Don’t smoke while driving. Ask your passengers to do the same.
