The catalytic converter
What is a catalytic converter? What is it used for?
The catalytic converter is a device that reduces the pollutants emitted by a gas-powered vehicle. Placed underneath the vehicle, this honeycomb-like part contains precious metals that filter and trap particles of toxic gases (such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide) emitted by the engine. Thus, when a vehicle is equipped with a high-performance catalytic converter, it releases far fewer pollutants into the environment.
