Safe driving tips for Halloween

Children and parents take to the streets in costume every year, eager for the traditional Halloween candy haul. Although it’s best to avoid driving altogether on that night, some people still need to venture out by car. In this blog post, some essential tips are provided to help you drive safely on October 31.

Examine your vehicle
Before you hit the road, check your car’s condition. Are your headlights working properly? Is your windshield washer fluid topped up? If your mirrors are dirty, clean them right away. These simple checks will help ensure that you can see and be seen by pedestrians.

It’s also a good idea to book a service appointment before Halloween to have an expert inspect your brakes and other critical systems. Reduced visibility after dark can lead to more abrupt and frequent braking, requiring optimal performance.
Reduce your speed
Children often become excited and distracted while trick-or-treating, making their movements unpredictable. Drive slowly to allow more to react if a child suddenly crosses the road.
Limit distractions
The risk of getting into an accident increases on Halloween night. Therefore, you must pay close attention when driving near those “little monsters.” Turn down your music or radio and avoid making calls with your hands-free device.

Additionally, avoid using your GPS or other devices that take your focus away from the road. You could easily miss a child running out in front of your car. Remember, to be courteous and patient when driving—everyone’s safety depends on it!
